With a master's degree in marine sciences and thirty years' experience in publishing and communications, Steel Pencil founder Patricia E. Boyd offers the unique combination of deep editorial knowledge and enthusiasm for a wide range of subjects.
Patricia has copyedited more than 250 books, including titles in science, history, business, and education, and numerous memoirs and novels. (See a sample of her projects here.) She has also "done her magic"—to quote a satisfied client (see some endorsements)—on dozens of medical reports and articles. For various medical and environmental research organizations, she has helped investigators present their findings with clarity and within regulatory guidelines. Patricia has also written catalog copy for a national scientific supply company, describing various safety instruments and promoting the firm's new chemical-reordering system.
Away from work, Patricia enjoys cooking, traveling, languages, and recreational soccer. She holds her team's record for the longest goal-free streak.

The name Steel Pencil echoes Patricia's hometown of Pittsburgh, the Steel City. Like steel girders, strong writing and editing forms the foundation of great communication.
