About me

DEPTH OF EXPERIENCE

I have copyedited more than 250 nonfiction books, including titles in science, history, business, and education, and numerous memoirs and novels (see a sample of my projects).  On dozens of medical and environmental reports, I have "done my magic," as one client calls it (see some endorsements). I take special pride in helping investigators present their findings with clarity and within regulatory guidelines. I have also written catalog copy for a national scientific supply company, describing various safety instruments and promoting the firm's new chemical-reordering system.

ABOUT THE COMPANY NAME

The name Steel Pencil Editorial echoes my hometown of Pittsburgh, the Steel City. Like steel girders, strong writing and editing lay the foundation of great communication.

SPREADING THE EFFICIENCY MESSAGE

At local and national editorial meetings, I presented an introductory seminar on using macros in Microsoft Word. Though I have much to learn on this topic myself, a few simple macros can save many hours of work. See some examples of helpful editorial macros.

BLOWING OFF STEAM

Outside work, I enjoy cooking, traveling, languages, and recreational soccer. I hold the dubious honor of being the team's player with the second-longest goal-free streak.
